TPS announces plans to resume Sports in February!
Jan 19, 2021 12:31 PM

A six/seven-week season will start Feb. 1 for Lincoln, Mt. Tahoma, Stadium and Wilson high schools and Feb. 10th for Foss High School in the following sports: Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Girls Soccer, Girls Swim and Golf. Start dates for other sports have not yet been determined.

Guidelines for these athletic activities are established under Gov. Jay Inslee’s Healthy Washington - Roadmap to Recovery. Under the new guidelines, Pierce County joins King and Snohomish counties to form the Puget Sound Region.

All regions in Washington began Phase 1 on Jan. 11. In order to move up phases, counties must improve four established health metrics. As that happens, more activities – including school sports – are allowed.

Working under the guidelines of the Governor’s plan, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) issued this document, Activities Allowed by Phases, Sport Risk and Venue, outlining the activities permitted during each phase, depending on the risk category of each respective sport.

How can students participate in TPS athletics?
In order to participate in a sport, students must have forms indicating updated immunizations and a valid sports physical. Students with a life-threatening health condition must submit an updated health care plan, medications and orders to their school nurse for approval prior to participation. Find forms for those requirements here.

Student do not need to buy an ASB card to participate in these sports this year.

If you have any questions related to this information, please contact your school’s athletics director.

It is likely there will be more changes and updates as we move forward. Any additional updates will be communicated to school communities via their athletic directors.
