Varsity Letter Criteria

RIVER RIDGE HAWKS

2019 TRACK & FIELD SCHEDULE

Total points needed to qualify to receive a letter: 25 points.

Ways to earn points:

  • One point every week that alltrack activities are participated in, including team lap after meets. Varsity points earned during a meet do not count if an athlete misses the team lap.
    • To qualify, distance runners must compete in a minimum of two events (800m, 1600m, and/or 3200m) per meet; sprinters, jumpers, and throwers must compete in a minimum of three.
    • Any athlete with five unexcused absences will be ineligible to letter.
    • Points earned in varsity meets go to varsity letter points.
      • Placing athletes earn one point per event in a meet.
      • Each athlete on a scoring relay earns one point.
      • One point earned for each personal record in separate events.
        • PR must be achieved in a meet.
        • Half a point earned for each season’s best in separate events.
          • SB must be achieved in a meet.
          • Two points if 3.0 or better GPA at mid-term grades (end of third quarter: April 13).
          • One point earned for volunteering at a water stop: March 9, April 13, and April 20. See Coach Huyck for details.
          • One point earned for volunteering at the Capital City Marathon, Sunday, May 19. See Coach Huyck for details.
          • Athletes must volunteer for at least one running event in order to letter; maximum two points.
          • One point earned for each home meet a parent or guardian helps officiate. Home meets are at South Sound Stadium; volunteers need to check in with Coach Huyck at the red trailer at 3:00 p.m. Maximum three points. Dates are: March 13, March 20, April 17, April 30, and May 1. Two parent volunteers are also needed at our League Meet at Franklin Pierce on May 10.
          • Points may be awarded by coaches for other reasons, such as showing exceptional sportsmanship or team leadership.

Note: Attendance is the first step to dedication and success in our Hawk Track and Field program. As a result, two missed practices in five school days—regardless of the reasons—will disqualify an athlete from competing in the upcoming meet. For example, our first meet is on March 13. If an athlete misses practice the day after, March 14, and then misses practice again on March 19, he or she is ineligible to compete in the meet on March 20.

ATHLETES MUST FINISH THE SEASON IN GOOD STANDING TO BE ELIGIBLE TO EARN A VARSITY LETTER.
