April 7, 2020
As many of you already know, Governor Jay Inslee suspended on-site learning for the remainder of the school year. The WIAA followed suit and cancelled all spring sports for the 2020 season. We are heartbroken for our seniors who are unable to complete their high school athletic career.
Any of us involved in high school athletics know how special the senior year is for the student-athlete. While there are many memories made for any athlete in any season, there is a heightened sense for the senior, a greater urgency in competition and more meaningful preparation and practice.
For all of us, we will always remember the spring of 2020 and what could have been. I strongly believe that adversity is one of our great opportunities to grow individually and collectively. While our sport season has been taken away from us, we should never let this defeat us. Rather, this adversity should inspire us to be better and do better.
Congratulations to all our Senior Blackhawks. Through distance learning, finish the school year strong, take advantage of the opportunities ahead of you and know future Blackhawks stand on your broad shoulders as we continue to build on our strong athletic tradition of Cheney High School.
Class of 2021, 22 & 23, never forget this season and how quickly it was taken away from you. Prepare and perform each day as if it is your last!
Remember, a successful life is about 10% the circumstances we find ourselves in and 90% in how we respond to those circumstances.
